Philadelphia is working hard to improve the quality of life to the students and residents of the city. A short 60 minutes away is the city of Allentown which demonstrates that an industrial city can rebound!
On Jan. 18, 2008, over 900 industry professionals, academics, and students will gather for the 14th annual Wharton Private Equity and Venture Capital Conference under the theme "Harnessing Winds of Change."
The conference, which is an independent, student-run event, will be held at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue, in Philadelphia, Pa. This year's distinguished keynote speakers will be David Rubenstein, founder and MD of the Carlyle Group; Dick Kramlich, founder and partner of New Enterprise Associates (NEA); and Guy Hands, founder of Terra Firma Capital Partners. Panelists include partners from TPG, KKR, Silver Lake, 3i, ATV, Atlas, Polaris, Intel Capital, Bain Capital, Welsh Carson, and the NVCA.
Nine panels held throughout the day will provide attendees insight into how the private equity and venture capital industry is "harnessing the winds of change" to allocate capital and maintain returns of recent years. These panels will discuss topics that address how buyout and venture capital funds are adjusting their investment approach across industries, geographies and deal sizes. Additionally, panelists will give their thoughts on the impact of taxes and legislation on private capital competitiveness, address the limited partner's perspective, and explore opportunities in distressed investing.
